Residential Construction Law Course Now Available

The class covers Contractual Provisions, Indemnity Law and Legislative Changes in Oregon relating to construction.

Changes in Oregon Lien Law – Will They Affect You?

A new law sponsored by the House Consumer Protection and Government Accountability Committee in Oregon went into effect on Jan. 1, 2011. The new law impacts material suppliers and subcontractors as well as homebuilders and remodelers. Here is a brief summary on some of the changes enacted by the legislation.
- Material suppliers and subcontractors that provide material, labor or equipment for renovation, remodel or repair on an existing owner-occupied residence can no longer perfect a lien on the homeowner’s property if they provided those resources to an unlicensed contractor. Read More→
Green Building Codes Class Available Soon From HBU

Home Builders University is adding the course “Residential Green Building and the Building Codes” to their online home builder courses. This course is a cooperative effort between the Oregon Home Builders Association and Earth Advantage Institute.
This course will cover:
- What is green building?
- Green building techniques
- Green building programs and incentives
- Opportunities within the Residential Code
- Challenges within the Residential Code
This course offers two (2) hours of Oregon Construction Contractors Board Core Credits towards the required eight (8) hours and three (3) hours of elective credits.

Building Exterior Shell Training Vital for Contractors

Due to the current housing market and economy, many homeowners are choosing to stay in their current homes. Instead of selling and moving up into new communities, they remodel their existing houses to fit their changing lifestyles and needs.
This is great news for renovators and remodelers, but its still a competitive market. Contractors can expand their job prospects by taking the Home Builders University EPA Lead Safe Renovation, Repair and Painting course. This contractor continuing education will enable contractors to work on homes built before 1978 in full compliance of the new EPA law. If you are a residential contractor in Oregon, you are now required to take builder continuing education classes to renew your license. To help you navigate this new territory, we have compiled a list of frequently asked questions.
When does the new law for Continuing Education for residentially licensed contractors go into effect?
The new CCB education law applies to all renewals on or after October 1, 2011. Contractors renewing before then are not required to take continuing education until their following renewal.
How many credits are required?
Residential contractors are required to take 16 hours of continuing education during every two year license period. Eight CE hours must be in core subject areas and 8 hours are elective. Read More→
